Partnering with County Conservation

Posted in

Stubblefield Salvage and Recycling, LLC is partnering with Walla Walla Planning and Walla Walla County Conservation Service to plant the north perimeter of the salvage yard at 595 Offner Road with native trees and shrubs. This will increase the wildlife habitat area, enhance the improved nature trail along Mill Creek and create a natural barrier to soften the fence line.

As a kid I use to fish for shiners and hunt for crawdads at the back end of our property. Bart Harvey and Jeff Kohler were my fishing and exploration buddies at Mill Creek.

We built forts in old abandoned car bodies and captured hundreds of water snakes as they hid under car hoods and big logs. Lots of the shiners came home to be placed in the large cattle watering trough.

Spring was one of my favorite times along Mill Creek when wild poppies bloomed by the thousands. They were a sea of color as they waved below the warm sunshine.

On really hot days, it was only a short walk up Mill Creek to 'naked lake', which was really the overflow pond for the Humbert rock crusher. This was a wonderful place surrounded by tall weeds and small trees. It was here that we caught pollywogs and swam in summer. When winter set in, it was our favorite place to ice skate.

Thank you Walla Walla for allowing us to work with you to help bring back some of the fun and wonder of our childhood playground.
